A Message From Chief Becky Walkowiak
I sincerely hope you take a few minutes to peruse the information we have gathered. I believe that once you have an opportunity to do, so you will see we are an extremely well-trained, well-equipped, full-service police department who works on the Valparaiso University campus to provide the safest possible environment for our students, faculty, and staff. You will find that University Police Department personnel patrol our campus by automobile, four-wheel drive vehicles for inclement weather, bicycle, and foot. We have numerous emergency telephones strategically located about the campus that ring directly to the University Police Department.
We take great pride in our transportation service, which has its own dispatch center utilizing two transportation vans that transport approximately 25,000 people per year on and about Valpo’s campus. A member of the University Police Department supervises this proactive service. The service is composed of three adult drivers and student aide dispatchers. They provide students with an alternative to walking alone during the evening hours (from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.), seven days a week during the academic year. This particular service is widely recognized as one of the strongest proactive programs enhancing student safety on Valpo’s campus. In reviewing the campus crime statistical data, it is apparent the proactive approach Valparaiso University takes is working.
