Hi everyone! My name is Rebekah Miller, and I’m a sophomore here at VU. I am a Social Work major with a Psychology minor. This will be my first semester working at the Writing Center, but I am very excited to begin helping others! I’m willing to take on any challenge I might face, but I would be best working with assignments within my major/minor or assignments from CORE. I understand how difficult the writing process can seem, so schedule an appointment with me any time!
Hello! My name is Lauren and I am Geography and International Relations double major. This is my first semester with the writing center, but I have been a peer tutor for the past two semesters, working mainly with international and CORE students. I am most effective within the writing center when I am helping writers brainstorm, organize main points, and create overall cohesion. This means that if you are insecure about the direction of your paper, are worried that your ideas won’t make sense to your reader, or that your paper doesn’t ‘flow,’ I can probably help you out.
Hi! I am Secondary Education and English major with a minor in Special Education. In the writing center, I enjoy helping people on their CORE and Education papers, but I can help with any type of assignment. If someone needs help expanding thoughts, developing a thesis, or just brainstorming ideas to get a good start, I am always here to help! I enjoy teaching and helping people express their thoughts through their writing, and I look forward to helping you soon!
Hi! I am a sophomore, and I am double majoring in political science and history with a pre-law concentration. This is my first year working as a writing consultant, and I am excited to be able to help students with their writing concerns and issues. I enjoy tutoring people and consider my strengths to be argumentative writing. If you are looking for someone to help you with organizing ideas, or work with you towards improving your writing skills, you should visit the Writing Center and make an appointment with me! I look forward to helping you with your writing! Good luck with your writing endeavors!
I am a sophomore nursing major. Although this is my first semester working here as a writing consultant, I am very excited to begin working here at the writing center! I love writing and the process that is writing, and I am eager to share my experience and knowledge with anyone who comes to the writing center for help or makes an appointment with me. As a writing consultant, I am experienced with a variety of writing techniques including different citations, such as MLA and APA, forming ideas and theses, and, my favorite, organizing. Even though I am a nursing major, I am prepared to help with different styles of writing for any classes that are not nursing. I hope to see you in the writing center soon!
Hi! I am majoring in English; I have an unwavering passion for creative writing and literary criticism. I’ve just recently started working at the writing center, and I am looking forward to helping others with their writing needs, questions, etc. As a Writing Consultant, my specialties include helping students with brainstorming, organization, and citation (particularly MLA format). If you need help with any of these topics, or any topic that pertains to writing, you can schedule an appointment with me. I look forward to seeing you soon.
Victoria is currently a junior English and Secondary Education major, with a minor in Spanish. She has been tutoring in writing for a little over three years total, and is entering her second year as a writing consultant here at the VU Writing Center. Most of her writing experience consists of argumentative/persuasive prose, rhetorical and literary analysis, and practice with both MLA and APA citations/format. She is open and enthusiastic to helping students write whose first language is not English and welcomes all who want to improve their writing in a one-on-one, collaborative learning environment. You can schedule and appointment with Victoria for any type of class or assignment by observing her hours at the Writing Center. She looks forward to working with you soon!
Hi! I am a junior biology major and chemistry minor. I have only been working at the writing center for a semester. However, I have already become very familiar with the extensive assortment of writing topics and styles that students at Valparaiso University encounter. I am particularly experienced in helping CORE students articulate ideas, organize arguments, employ proper grammar, and utilize MLA format when writing their papers. If a student presents me with a prompt and needs assistance understanding a professor’s expectations, I am willing to guide the student to formulate a thesis, brainstorm ideas, and organize thoughts into an outline. When reviewing a student’s paper, I provide thorough, proficient, and honest critique. I am very passionate about writing and I am eager to illustrate to other students that essay prompts are an opportunity, rather than a burden.
I am a senior Elementary education major and Christ College student who is also minoring in Spanish and Communications. I am entering my second year as a Writing Consultant and I enjoy the Writing Center’s student-focused atmosphere where consultants, knowledgeable on a wide variety of topics, assist their peers in improving their writing from the first brainstorm to the final polishing. As a Writing Consultant, my strengths lie in constructing coherent and supported Christ College and Education Department papers, formulating precise and powerful theses and conclusions, and assisting students in identifying the perfect word to express their thoughts. I look forward to working with you soon!
