Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) is a general master’s degree that offers a liberal arts alternative to the more narrowly focused technical and pre-professional graduate programs. Consider an MALS if you wish to broaden your knowledge of the humanities and social sciences, if you wish to obtain a broad based master’s degree for career advancement, or if you are an adult who wishes to return to the discipline and excitement of structured learning. In the MALS you will take sequence of seminars that will introduce you to forms of inquiry in a variety of fields (humanities, social science, fine arts, and/or natural science), and you will pursue a concentration in a particular subject area. Currently available concentrations include history, human behavior and society, humane education, theology, and ethics. Individualized concentrations are also possible.
