Incoming first-year art majors may receive departmental scholarships to support their studies. These are awarded on the basis of a portfolio review and are not linked to academic merit or financial need.
The scholarships are renewable for up to four years as long as the student remains an art major and his or her cumulative grade point average does not drop below 2.75.
Applications for scholarships should be submitted by Dec. 1. Art department scholarship recipients will be notified by March 1.
Scholarship applicants should submit:
- 15 to 20 examples of their best work, selected to demonstrate the range of their skills
- a brief description of each image which includes 1) the title of work; 2) medium; 3) date completed; and 4) size
- a one-page letter that outlines the student’s artistic goals
The department prefers that applicants submit a PowerPoint presentation with digital images of the work. Please do not send originals. All elements of the portfolio should be sent to:
1709 Chapel Drive
Valparaiso, IN 46383
Prospective art majors who have further questions or wish to meet with someone from the department should call the University at 219.465.5000 and ask Admissions to set up an interview with the department chair.
