ILS offers virtual seminars

In lieu of the annual spring conference, the Advisory Council of the Institute of Liturgical Studies is scheduling a series of seminars in February, March and April.  The First Institute Seminar in the series will take place Thursday, February 4, 2021, 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time (ET). An optional Evening Prayer will be offered following the seminar.

Holy God, Wholly Human: Language In Preaching and Worship

This guided conversation with Rev. Dr. Luke Powery will consider liturgical and homiletical language for God and humanity, including issues surrounding gender, race, suffering, hope, death and resurrection. During the conversation, participants will be able to submit questions to Dr. Powery and will be moderated by Advisory Council member Dr. Zebulon Highben.

The Rev. Dr. Luke A. Powery is the Dean of Duke University Chapel and Associate Professor of Homiletics at Duke Divinity School. A national leader in the theological study of the art of preaching (homiletics), Powery regularly delivers sermons at Duke Chapel as well as at churches throughout the United States and abroad. He is often a keynote speaker and lecturer at educational institutions, conferences, symposia, and retreats.
