The Chapel’s fall worship schedule begins Welcome Sunday, Aug. 20, when University Pastor James A. Wetzstein preaches and presides at the 10 a.m. service of Holy Communion. A volunteer choir of students, faculty, and staff will sing and the Praise Band will help lead special music. All new students are invited to meet their Peer Ministers in the lobby of their residence halls to go the welcome gathering at the Chapel from 9:20 to 10 a.m., which includes coffee, tea, juice, and coffee cake.
Candlelight Evening Prayer kicks off at 10 p.m. Aug. 20. New students are invited to meet their Peer Ministers in their residence hall lobbies at 9:45 p.m. and walk to Candlelight together. Candlelight is offered at 10 p.m. on Sundays when classes are in session and features moving music sung by candlelight. University Pastor Rev. Dr. Charlene M. Rachuy Cox is the primary preacher for Candlelight.
Morning Prayer will begin on the first day of classes, Tuesday, Aug. 22, at 10 a.m. Weather permitting, worship will be outside the Chapel from 10 to 10:20 a.m. Morning Prayer is offered Monday through Friday when classes are in session and features a different style of worship each day.
The first Celebrate! service of the year is Wednesday, Aug. 23, at 10 p.m. Peer Ministers will again be available to meet new students in their residence hall lobbies at 9:45 p.m. to walk together to the Chapel for this laid-back service of contemporary worship and Holy Communion, which is offered each Wednesday evening classes are in session.
