Christ College scholar Jacob Harrison ’19

“Christ College scholar Jacob Harrison ’19, pictured with Dean Susan VanZanten and Dean Eric Johnson, was selected to be this year’s student commencement speaker. Jacob received his Bachelor of Science degree in computer engineering and graduated summa cum laude on May 19, 2019. During his time at Valpo, Jacob was a teaching assistant for the College of Engineering, and completed internships at NASA and Texas Instruments. He additionally conducted research for independent projects on MCPU design, battery-powered appliances, and spectrum scanning. Jacob served as director for TEDxValparaisoUniversity, was an active member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity, and coordinated a dance marathon event in 2018 that raised over $70,000 for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. He was also president of Eta Kappa Nu, the electrical engineering honor society. In his commencement speech, Jacob urged his fellow graduates to pursue their lives and vocations with courage and passion, and to boldly throw their hats into the ring. “We’re ready to go and do great things,” he declared, “and the world is ready for us.”
