David Western’s work focuses on social and political theory, international relations, peace studies, and conflict resolution, especially addressing the role that empathy might play in making and maintaining peace in the world. Western is revising his dissertation – “Power, Justice, Empathy: How and Why Empathy Matters for Peace” – for publication. He teaches seminars on “King and Gandhi,” “Justice,” and “A Modern World and Its Critics,” as well as the First-Year Program and “Interpretation: Self, Culture, Society.”
