Clinical Assistant Professor


Dr. Spain joined the College of Nursing and Health Professions in August 2018. She holds a Master’s degree as a Clinical Nurse Specialist specializing in gerontology. She is also board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Dr. Spain’s clinical expertise includes both internal medicine and occupational health, where she held the position of Senior Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Process Specialist, and Wellness Coordinator in a large industrial setting for many years. She maintains clinical expertise in various local occupational health settings. Dr. Spain is active in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Coalition of Advanced Practice Nurses of Indiana, and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nursing. Her doctoral project, “The Effects of a Food Allergy Management Plan to Keep Children with Food Allergies Safe at School,” was developed due to her passion for the topic and was presented nationally at several different conferences. Dr. Spain was awarded first place in the Graduate Research Academic Symposium in 2015 and received the Doctor of Nursing Practice Student award related to her EBP project. Her current interests involve public health topics as they relate to occupational medicine and management of pediatric food allergies.
