Dr. Scarlet Spain joined the College of Nursing and Health Professions in August 2018. Dr. Spain is board certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Her clinical expertise includes both internal medicine and occupational medicine, where she held the position of Senior Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Process Specialist, and Wellness Coordinator in a large industrial setting for many years. She maintains current clinical expertise in various occupational medicine settings where she continues to practice as a NP. She also works as a healthcare consultant where she maintains a social media presence and advises on occupational health topics focusing on regulations, law, safety, and employment. Her doctoral project, “The Effects of a Food Allergy Management Plan to Keep Children with Food Allergies Safe at School,” was developed due to her passion for the topic and was presented nationally at several different conferences. Dr. Spain was awarded first place in the Graduate Research Academic Symposium in 2015 and received the Doctor of Nursing Practice Student award related to her EBP project. Dr. Spain is active in the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Coalition of Advanced Practice Nurses of Indiana, and Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nursing. 

Dr. Spain has published works in The Nurse Practitioner and authored multiple textbook chapters. Her current interests involve public health topics as they relate to occupational medicine and the management of pediatric food allergies.  Dr. Spain is currently obtaining an additional graduate degree and will graduate with her Master’s in Public Health in May 2023.
