Info for Faculty

We are excited to be able to invite you to participate in commencement activities again this year. Commencement was not the same without you last year. Spring commencement ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday, May 14 and Sunday, May 15. The Baccalaureate Service will be held on Friday, May 13. There are several changes to commencement activities to take note of; please find a detailed schedule with faculty instruction below. Faculty are invited to attend the May 2022 commencement ceremonies.

For Your Information:

Tickets are NOT required for faculty participating in the ceremony procession.

Faculty planning to participate in the academic procession for the commencement ceremony should line up down the ARC locker room corridor, 30 minutes prior to the beginning of each ceremony.

Advanced degrees will be awarded in the same ceremony as undergraduate degrees – according to the college they belong. All advanced degree graduates will be hooded during the ceremony, in front of the stage, before their names are called to receive their diploma. Faculty hooders have been identified by each dean.

Faculty with questions about participating in the ceremony should contact the University Marshal, Ken Luther at ken.luther@valpo.edu.

Baccalaureate Service

Time: 11 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Location(s): Gather for procession in Union (10:30 a.m.); Service held in Chapel of the Resurrection

This year’s Baccalaureate Service is continuing a change we initiated last year. The service will be an internal campus celebration of our graduates — a bookend to their time at Valpo, much like the Opening Convocation Ceremony.  A procession of graduates accompanied by faculty and staff in support will move from the Union Atrium Lobby into the Chapel. Graduates are encouraged to invite a faculty or staff member who has been significant to their time at Valpo to walk with them. All campus community members will be seated together.  Faculty and staff are invited and encouraged to attend without specific invitation from a graduate. Please gather in the Union Atrium Lobby at 10:30 a.m. for the procession.

Celebratory Luncheon

Time: 12-2 p.m.

Location: Founders Table, Harre Union

Immediately following the Baccalaureate Service, please join graduates and colleagues for a special celebratory luncheon in Founders Table. Lunch vouchers will be provided to those in attendance at the Baccalaureate Service. Please note: lunch voucher quantities are limited. Those who do not receive a voucher are invited to attend at their own expense. The Founders lunch will be available for $9.25/person. Please click here to see what is on the special menu.
