Biography

Paul Oren joined the Communication & Visual Arts Department in 2005. Professor Oren teaches a variety of courses at Valpo including Intro to Mass Media & Visual Arts, a host of journalism offerings and the CVA Capstone Senior Project. In addition to teaching, he serves as the faculty advisor to The Torch, Valparaiso University’s student newspaper.

Outside of the classroom, Oren is an award-winning sports journalist. The two-time Lisagor Award winner is the founder and editor of The Victory Bell, a publication focusing on Valparaiso University athletics. Prior to launching The Victory Bell, Oren served as a sports correspondent for the Northwest Indiana Times for 17 years, covering everything from high school to professional sports in the Chicagoland area.

After graduating from Valpo in 2002 with a B.A. in broadcast journalism, Professor Oren began his professional career at the Milwaukee Radio Alliance where he served as the Promotions Director for WLUM-FM, WJZI-FM and WMCS-AM. Oren completed his M.S. in sports administration in 2009 and he holds several professional memberships, including in the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, the Associated Collegiate Press and the United States Basketball Writers Association.
