Minors

A 15-credit minor allows students to develop their communication skills and their understanding of today’s communication environment.

Any 15 credits of communication courses can be used to complete the general communication minor, or students can choose one of the targeted minors outlined below.

Students cannot earn both a major and a minor within the communication department.

Requirements for the digital media minor

15 credits selected from the specified courses in the digital media major 15 credits

Requirements for the journalism minor

COMM 100  Communication Processes and Practice  3 credits
COMM 261 Foundations of Journalism 3 credits
COMM 361 Advanced Journalism 3 credits
Two additional courses from the following options: 

  • COMM 198 Introduction to Video Production
  • COMM 250 The Radio Industry and Audio Production
  • COMM 251 Studio Television Production
  • COMM 322 Sports Media Formats
  • COMM 401 Social Media
  • COMM 490 Topics in Communication (as approved for major)

Requirements for the public relations minor

COMM 261 Foundations of Journalism 3 credits
