VP Julie DeGraw: Residence Hall Update
To: Residential Students
Posted: March 23, 2020 at 6:30 p.m.
To students currently on campus
We have received notice that the Governor of Indiana has issued an executive order to “stay at home” beginning March 25 at midnight through April 7. This order has significantly changed our current circumstances as a campus and may result in students not being able to travel in the near future. As such, we are notifying you that we are limiting the occupancy of the University operated housing to students with essential needs only. Essential needs are defined as those who are verified as international students or students who cannot find another place to stay due to the student having a family member at home who is in a higher risk health category, students with food or housing insecurity or students with physically or emotionally unsafe home environments. Students whose homes are 500 or more miles from campus and who cannot find a place to stay in the interim would also qualify. All other students must leave campus by Tuesday at 8pm. If students are not able to remove all personal belongings by this time, they can return at a later date (not before April 7) to get the remainder of their belongings.
Those who completed the most recent Spring 2020 Campus Housing Request Form will be notified by Residence Life whether they fall within the approved categories. Those who have not filled out the form will not be able to remain.
It is our understanding that some internet providers may be providing free internet during this challenging time. If this is an issue for you, you may want to contact your internet provider.
For students not currently on campus
We have received notice that the Governor of Indiana has issued an executive order to “stay at home” beginning March 25 at midnight through April 7. This order has significantly changed our current circumstances as a campus. As such, we are postponing the ability for students and families to return to campus to move out of the residence halls until at least after April 7. In addition, students who are not currently approved to be living on campus, will not be allowed to return to university operated housing. Students will receive an email indicating when they are permitted to return to campus to complete the process of moving out.
