Dear Valparaiso University Graduate School Class of 2020,

The events of recent weeks have presented new challenges for Valparaiso University as we continue to navigate the uncertainty amid COVID-19. University leaders are taking a measured and thoughtful approach to every decision regarding our response. We have been carefully listening to the feedback of University constituents to help us forge a path through this unpredictable time.

While all of us at Valpo have been looking forward to celebrating your successes in the Graduate School, our commitment to hosting a safe and healthy ceremony is of the greatest importance. After careful consideration, we have decided to postpone Commencement until such time that we can safely convene as a community. Once a determination on timing has been made, we will share that information with you.

This unprecedented pandemic has disrupted the last weeks of your time at Valpo, This is not how the semester was supposed to go, and it’s not what any of us want. Yet, while it is appropriate and necessary to recognize the sadness, anger, or anxiety we feel over this unpredictable situation, it is equally important to remember the memories you’ve made, lessons you’ve learned, and the successes you’ve had at Valpo will endure. Nothing can change that.

I will continue to update you as the details and our pathway forward become clearer. May God bless each of you in your final weeks and in the work you are doing to serve your vocations.
