COO David Phelps: Change to Dining Services
Posted: March 19, 2020 at 9:17 p.m.
As we continue to monitor updates regarding the quickly evolving COVID-19 pandemic, the health, safety, and well-being of all campus community members remain at the forefront. Our Incident Command and Executive Management Council teams are meeting daily and in continuous discussion to respond quickly and adapt contingency plans as necessary.
The University takes direction from and is in contact with several health agencies including the Center for Disease Control, the Indiana Department of Health, and the Porter County Health Department. Indiana Governor Holcomb has recently communicated directives to Indiana restaurants and the Porter County Health Department requires the University to no longer allow dine-in patrons. Effective immediately, patrons of Valpo Dining Services may acquire to-go meals in the Founders servery to be consumed in areas other than the Founders Dining Room, Hearth Room, or the Café dining area.
Effective March 22, 10 p.m., the Campus Café will be closed until further notice as a result of the restrictions on gatherings and dine-in patrons.
Please be mindful the CDC encourages social gatherings to be limited to 10 or fewer people. We recognize this may be disappointing to many of you. However, Valparaiso University is working hard to maintain a healthy environment for all of our campus and follow social distancing recommendations from the state of Indiana and the CDC.
As we continue to adjust to these unprecedented circumstances, I am grateful for your understanding and commitment to a safe and healthy campus community.
