We just spent the last few minutes reading the devotions that we published in the last week of the school years 2019-20 and 2020-21. My goodness, what a ride – from announcing furloughs to tracing the history of a prayer, the meaning of which seems to deepen with every passing month:

O God, you have called your servants to ventures of which we cannot see the ending, by paths as yet untrodden, through perils unknown. Give us faith to go out with good courage, not knowing where we go, but only that your hand is leading us and your love supporting us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

This year, in addition to saying “farewell and Godspeed” to our graduates, we are extending the same blessing to all the faculty and staff who have accepted the University’s early retirement offer. You know who you are and all of us who will continue to work at Valpo know someone (or two or three or more) who will be missed come July.

We are grateful for your work among us – for the part you played in making Valparaiso University a treasured place.

We pray that you will find abundant blessings as you answer the call of other vocations and find new ways to use the gifts that you have been given. The handful of personal conversations that we’ve been honored to have suggest that the Spirit of God is moving with characteristic creativity, providing visions for travel and service.

May you go with the blessing of good courage and confidence in God’s love and our thanks.
