EDUCATION MINORS

Special Education

The Special Education Minor provides meaningful learning experiences about individuals with disabilities, special education law, assessment and evaluation, reading disabilities, as well as models for inclusion and collaboration.

The Special Education Minor may lead to K-12 Licensure in Mild Intervention.

Requirements Courses (19 credits):

  • SPED 347 – Characteristics of Individuals With Mild Disabilities 3 cr
  • SPED 441 – Assistive Technology 1 cr
  • SPED 444 – Assessment in Special Education 3 cr
  • SPED 445 – Teaching the Student With Mild Disabilities 3 cr
  • SPED 450 – Models of Collaboration and Consultation In Special Education 3 cr
  • SPED 451 – Applied Behavior Analysis 3 cr
  • SPED 466 – Teaching Reading to Students With Disabilities 3 cr

Early Childhood Education

The Early Childhood Education Minor allows students to develop the knowledge and skills to engage young children in developmentally appropriate learning experiences.

The Early Childhood Education Minor may lead to P-3 Licensure.

Requirements Courses (19 credits):

  • ED 310 – Foundations in Early and Emergent Literature 4 cr
  • ED 339 – Scientifically-Based Reading Research Components of Early and Emergent Literacy 3 cr
  • ED 352 – Early Childhood Methods: Instruction 3 cr
  • ED 353 – Early Childhood Methods: The Learning Environment 3 cr
  • PSY 215 – Life Span Development 3 cr
  • SPED 450 – Models of Collaboration and Consultation In Special Education 3 cr

General Education

The Education Minor allows undergraduates to learn about education systems as well as student development and learning. The education minor is a valuable tool that is applicable in many career paths, including those in P-12 schools and other learning institutions.

The General Education Minor may lead to 5-12 Licensure when combined with additional courses and a content area major.

Requirements (18 credits):

  • ED 357 – Designing Curriculum, Assessment and, Learning Plans 3 cr
  • ED 360 – Literacies in the Content Areas 3 cr
  • ED 470 – Diversity, Equity, and Education Credits: 3 cr
