Professor Anderson comes to Valparaiso University from The Ohio State University, where she earned a Ph.D. in linguistics.
She specializes in English linguistics and language variation. Her teaching and research interests include sociolinguistics, linguistic and cultural diversity, ESL, and the history of the English language.
Having earned an M.A. in English as well as a B.A. in English and linguistics, Professor Anderson is also especially interested in the ways that linguistic analysis can inform the study of English literature and composition. Her doctoral dissertation, “Noun Phrase Word Order Variation in Old English Verse and Prose,” considers the placement of modifiers within noun phrases as a feature of Old English poetic style.
Professor Anderson enjoys exploring the intersections of linguistics, literature, writing, and language learning both in her research and in the classroom. She is delighted to share her love of language with her students.
