Professor Anderson comes to Valparaiso University from The Ohio State University, where she earned a Ph.D. in Linguistics with a focus on English language variation and change. Having earned an M.A. in English as well as a B.A. in English and Linguistics, Professor Anderson is interested in the ways that linguistic analysis can inform the study of English literature and composition, especially in the areas of style and poetics.
Professor Anderson teaches a range of courses in the English Department, including courses in the TESOL program and in the English Studies & Communications program. She also enjoys teaching in the first-year experience (Core). She has taught Core; TESOL Theory and Methods; Grammar, Style, and Editing; Introduction to Linguistics; Sociolinguistics; Language, Sex, and Gender; History of the English Language; and The Theory and Practice of Tutoring Writing. Professor Anderson particularly enjoys working with first-year writers and multilingual writers.
Appreciating the cross-pollination of effective teaching and research, Professor Anderson has published scholarship in the areas of writing center studies, TESOL, digital humanities, Old English poetics, and the history of the English language.
