Janelle Ramsel ’11, JD, PhD, is the  Assistant General Counsel and Title IX Coordinator for Valparaiso University, joining the University on October 31, 2018. In her role as Assistant General counsel, Dr. Ramsel is responsible for contract review, student-life matters, and Clery Act compliance. As Title IX coordinator, she is responsible for implementation of the University’s Non-discrimination, Harassment, and Sexual Misconduct Policy.

About Janelle Ramsel

Prior to joining the University, Janelle worked for the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) as their Title IX Coordinator and the University of Wisconsin System as a law clerk. At UWM, she coordinated UWM’s sex discrimination response for Milwaukee’s campus of approximately 24,000 students. She also served as co-chair of UW System’s Campus Climate Survey Working Group to procure a campus climate survey tool for UW System, and chair of UWM’s Title IX Working Group to coordinate sexual misconduct education, complaint, and prevention response across the UWM campus. In her role as a law clerk at UW System, Janelle advised the General Counsel on a variety of higher education issues, including Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Clery Act, Title IX, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, First Amendment issues, and the Affordable Care Act. Janelle has also taught Higher Education Law for Educational Policy and Leadership graduate students at Marquette University.

Janelle earned her Juris Doctor from Wisconsin Law School, and her Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Her dissertation explored how Big 10 institutions implement their Title IX policies. Janelle also earned her Master of Education in Teaching from the University of Hawaii-Manoa, and her Bachelor of Arts from Valparaiso University.
