The international studies department at Valparaiso University offers four majors in Chinese and Japanese studies, international economics and cultural affairs, global service, and Latin American and Latino studies. These majors can be combined with language studies, business, education, communication, or any of our other outstanding programs.

In the international studies department, you’ll engage in dialogue across cultures and gain the skills essential to succeed in an increasingly global society. The department combines interdisciplinary approaches to area studies — East Asia, Latin America, and Europe — with thematic issues such as globalization, humanitarian aid, sustainable development, social justice, global security, transnationalism, environmental issues, and poverty reduction.

The global service major at Valparaiso University is an interdisciplinary program designed for students considering careers with international organizations and development agencies or students who wish to equip themselves for global service as they prepare for a different primary career.
Economics & Culture
International economics and cultural affairs is an interdisciplinary major program that combines study of a foreign language and culture with internationally focused courses in economics, geography, history, and political science.
East Asia
Established in 1986, Valparaiso University’s Chinese and Japanese studies program has become a leader in East Asian studies among colleges of its size.
