Date: June 22, 2012

VALPARAISO, IN – Valparaiso University Law School Professor Bernard Trujillo was honored at the 14th Annual International Latino Book Awards at the Instituto Cervantes in New York City on June 5. Immigration Law and the US-Mexico Border, Trujillo’s book co-authored with Kevin R. Johnson, earned 1st Place in the Best Reference Book in English category.

This book was published by Arizona Press in 2011 and provides an introduction to U.S. Immigration Law, a course which Trujillo teaches each year at Valparaiso University Law School. It places a special focus on the migration patterns from Mexico to the U.S. The book discusses the long history of discrimination of those of Mexican descent in the U.S. and the special circumstances facing these two countries, which make both legal and illegal immigration such a large and continuous issue.
