Seegers Lecture on Jurisprudence

Legal Realisms, Old and New

November 29, 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., Wesemann Hall

“Legal Realism” now has sufficient cachet that scholars from many different fields and countries compete to claim the mantle of the “Realist program.” But what does it mean to be a “legal realist”? Professor Leiter will answer this question first by exploring the relationship between American and Scandinavian Realism and by elaborating on the “Skeptical Doctrine” that links them. Professor Leiter will then debunk the myth that American Realism relied on social-scientific methods in its defense of the Skeptical Doctrine.

Military Veterans Law Association – Volunteer Opportunity

The Military Veterans Law Association asks you to volunteer on Thursday, November 29, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. We would like to bring a group of students to Gary, IN to assist in finishing up some painting at a facility for homeless female veterans.

The event is called the “Final Touch” and is being put on by the Webb House for Homeless Veterans. This event is a team effort, with groups from Home Depot, Best Buy and local American Legions and VFW’s all committed to coming. This is an excellent way to help not only veterans but also women in need. These women served for all of us and this is a way to say thank you and show your appreciation.

If you can assist for a few hours, please email by Tuesday November 27. We will try to arrange carpools from there. Thanks everyone!

American Red Cross “Holiday Mail for Heroes” Program

American Red Cross offers a holiday-giving opportunity for our Volunteer Corps members to consider. While this is not a group service event, we wanted to share this with you as we see it as a great chance for our Corps members to “work from home” and support our troops. From now until November 28 you can send your own Holiday Card that will be delivered to a member of the United States Armed Forces to show your appreciation and support during the holiday season.

If you would like to participate, please send your holiday cards to U.S. Cellular Field at the address below by November 28:
