Pumpkin Painting at the Boys and Girls Club

The Illinois State Bar Association is sponsoring a pumpkin painting event at the Boys and Girls Club of Valparaiso. The event will take place on October 30 from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. If you are interested in volunteering for the event, please e-mail Thank you and we hope to see you at the event!

Valparaiso Immigration Clinic Community Forum on Deferred Action

If you entered the U.S. before your 16th birthday and are under the age of 31, you may be eligible for Deferred Action. With Deferred Action, you cannot be deported for two years, and you can obtain a work permit.

At the forum, we will:

  • Explain what “Deferred Action” means
  • Help you to figure out if you’re eligible
  • Teach you how to apply for Deferred Action
  • Help you decide whether you need a lawyer to assist with your application

Veterans Day 5K Fun Run/Walk

The Veterans Day 5K Fun Run/Walk will take place Saturday, November 10 at 2:00 p.m., around Ring Road. Check-in is in front of the fitness center starting at 1:00 p.m. PETS ARE WELCOME! Pre-registration is $10 per person and registration the day of the event is $15 per person. All proceeds will go towards Help a Vet Get a Pet and an adoption booth will be on site.

24th Annual Swygert Moot Court Competition

The final round of the 24th Annual Luther M. Swygert Memorial Moot Court Competition will take place on November 7 at 4:00 p.m., in the Duesenberg Recital Hall in the Valparaiso University Center for the Arts.  The Moot Court Society is proud to present their top four oralists before a panel of federal judges.  This year’s competition problem confronts the limits of First Amendment protection of free speech on specialty license plates.  All students, faculty, and staff are invited to attend the competition.  The hall fills up quickly so come early to get a seat.

3L Composite Pictures

3L composite pictures will be taken on November 12 and 13. Everyone should sign up for a time slot on the steering committee board in the main hallway. Time slots are 15 minutes each and the student will be getting measured for their cap and gown at this time as well. Times are November 12: 9-1 OR 3-6 and November 13: 11-2. Also, these days are the ONLY days for pictures, there will be NO make-ups.

Obamacare: We Won Everything but the Case

It’s Wednesday October 31st at 5:00 p.m., Ulbricht Classroom

The event will be about the unprecedented expansion of federal power.  The consequences of the SCOTUS decision.  How parts of the decision favor federalism.  There will be commentary from Professor Sy Moskowitz.

Latin and Ballroom Dance is back!

By popular demand, we will again be hosting a free Latin and ballroom dance class for students, staff and faculty. Taught by our own Eduardo Galan, it will meet as follows.

Thursdays, November 1 and 15, 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m., Community Room of the Christopher Center.

Both singles and couples welcome. These classes will be social dance-oriented and as we move along we will focus on more of a clean ballroom style. The classes will consist of Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, Cha-Cha, East Coast swing, and the Country Two-Step. At the end, we will gauge interest in continuing the class in the spring semester. State of Sparta v. John Green

Case of First Degree Murder

On March 28, 2010, local resident Kelly Green was killed by a single gunshot wound to the head and she walked back to her car after watching her son’s soccer game at Freedom Park.  Nobody saw the shooter.  Kelly’s ex-husband, John Green, has been charged with her murder.

Trivia Night

Business Law Society (BLS) will be hosting Trivia Night, Friday November 2, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Cornucopia Cafe on Lincolnway.  Free food and drinks will be provided and the winning team will receive a gift card prize
