Valparaiso University is committed to maintaining campus health and safety as we navigate a global pandemic. As we plan for fall operations and in-person instruction for all returning and incoming students, we are looking to the guidance of local and national health experts so that we can begin a return to normalcy for students, faculty, and staff starting in August 2021.

In order to provide the safest, yet least restrictive, experience, Valparaiso University will require every full-time, part-time, or audit student to complete a COVID-19 vaccination program by Aug. 1, 2021. Student-athletes who participate in fall sports must be fully vaccinated by July 1.

Faculty and staff will also be required to complete a COVID-19 vaccination program before returning to campus this fall.

Any individual age 16 and older can schedule a COVID-19 vaccine in the state of Indiana at the Indiana Department of Health website. If you wish to be vaccinated in another state, you can register for vaccine appointments on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website. You can also call 211 to schedule a vaccine appointment over the phone. Frequently asked questions about the COVID-19 vaccination are available on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website.

The Student Health Center has ordered vaccines to administer to students. You will be notified by email when appointments open for on-campus vaccinations. Additionally, international students, who cannot access vaccines in their home countries, can receive the vaccine from the Student Health Center.

Graduate students who are enrolled in a fully online program with no on-campus components are exempt; however, all other full-time, part-time, or audit students are required to participate in the vaccination program.

All students must send proof of vaccination to Any students who fail to complete a vaccination program will be unable to return to campus and participate in on-campus classes for the 2021 fall semester until the requirement is met.

If you need to request a medical or religious exemption from this required vaccination, or have any questions about this policy, please email For the health and safety of those that qualify for an exemption, and for the health and safety of our campus community, you may be subject to regular COVID-19 testing, isolation, quarantine, or other measures consistent with CDC guidance.

Thank you for your assistance in protecting the Valpo community and working to return the campus to as normal as possible this fall.
