COVID-19 Employee/Student Code of Conduct

Last Updated: 7/2/20

This COVID-19 Employee/Student Code of Conduct is in effect until further notice and comes as the result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Its purpose is to achieve and maintain a safe and healthy University environment with the objective of resuming normal University operations to the extent possible. Many of the requirements and recommendations set forth in the document come from the University’s Incident Command Team’s Safety Plan (and the Operations Plan where cited), as amended when needed. That document provides further details and can be obtained at https://www.valpo.edu/looking-forward/. Employees and students of the University that do not follow any requirements applicable to them may face disciplinary action pursuant to the Faculty/Staff Handbook(s) or Student Handbook. All requirements herein are in addition to any requirements or obligations set forth in those documents.

Student requirements

Participate and comply with the University health screening processes and policies before arriving on campus for the 2020—2021 fall and spring semesters and upon the return from any international travel.

Participate and comply with the University’s daily self-monitoring requirements including completion of any daily health questionnaires.
Comply with requirements to self-isolate or be absent from campus, academic, or University-sponsored events when the University determines doing so is in the best safety interest of you or the members of the University community or pursuant to University process and policies.

The CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other physical distancing measures are difficult to maintain. As such, face coverings must be worn by every individual on campus in all indoor public spaces and spaces frequently used by multiple people. Face coverings are required to be worn by every individual on campus while in outdoor spaces when in groups where physical distancing measures are difficult to maintain (i.e., walking to/from class within a group of people). Face coverings are required in campus housing pursuant to the guidelines set forth at https://www.valpo.edu/looking-forward/.

Maintain physical distancing of 6 feet from others whenever feasible.
Bring no visitors or guests to campus unless specifically allowed by the University student visitor policy at https://www.valpo.edu/looking-forward/.

The coronavirus is often spread among groups of people who are in close contact in a confined space for an extended period of time (ISDH, 2020). Group sizes cannot exceed that set forth in the University COVID-19 Event Policy found at https://www.valpo.edu/looking-forward/. The CDC physical distancing must be followed and individuals must wear face coverings.

Comply with and maintain all cleaning, sanitation, and safety requirements of your professors or other University employees with authority over you.
