MSEED scholars can participate in a full range of campus activities, and most do. The following organizations are particularly relevant for future math and science educators:
Valpo’s Biology Club meets monthly and brings together people who are interested in life. The club hosts picnics, parties, trips to the dunes, movie screenings, and even opportunities to go fly fishing.
The club’s slogan is “putting biology into service.” Members often spend time together outdoors working to maintain and restore Indiana’s natural environment.
The Chemistry Club at Valparaiso University is a student organization focused on enhancing the overall experience of chemistry students. Social activities bring fun into the academic life and help build relationships among students and faculty.
Academically oriented activities benefit Valpo students and the wider community. They include:
- Performing chemical demonstrations in local elementary school classrooms
- Purchasing and distributing course study guides and laboratory safety supplies to students
- Organizing trips to visit regional graduate schools
Club Educate offers opportunities for community, service, and learning, targeted at students who hope to become educators at any level.
Valpo’s environmental group is dedicated to the principles of conservation, recycling, and environmentalism.
Valpo hosts a chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS), a national organization open to any student interested in physics.
The purpose of the Valparaiso University Chapter of SPS is to promote knowledge of the science of physics and to encourage student interest in physics throughout the academic and local communities.
