Adjunct Instructor of Music


Originally from Peoria Illinois, Alexander Austin attended Northern Illinois University in Dekalb, where he studied under Ron Carter and Marlene Rosenberg. At Northern, Alex performed in the world famous NIU jazz ensemble, where his performing credits include appearances with Ed Thigpen, Benny Golson, Frank Foster, Rufus Ried, Randy Brecker, Carl Allen, and many more. Also, Austin was awarded a position as a Liberace scholar his final two years at NIU before graduating with a Bachelor of Music with an emphasis in jazz studies and performance.

Austin has performed on many international and national stages including appearances at the Chicago Jazz Festival, Chicago World Music Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Chile International Jazz Festival, JVC Jazz Fest in New York, Moog Fest, High Sierra Music Festival, and many more.

Alex now performs with many of Chicago’s best musicians, including jazz and classical guitar virtuoso Fareed Haque in both Mathgames! and Flat Earth Ensemble.
