Monica Schafer holds a BME degree from Valparaiso University and an MM degree in violin performance from the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, where she studied with Daniel Heifetz. Mrs. Schafer grew up in Valparaiso, studying violin with Betty Gehring and later teaching orchestra in the public schools from 1988 through 2005. She completed Suzuki Teacher Training (Books 1–4) with Edward Kreitman at Valparaiso University in May 2004 and currently maintains a small violin/viola studio in her home. Over the years, Mrs. Schafer has played violin and viola in various orchestras and chamber groups throughout Northwest Indiana. However, she especially enjoys performing with her pianist husband, Scott. The Schafers have two grown sons, a daughter-in-law, two grandsons, and one granddog.
