Valparaiso University 2018–2019 Alumni Achieve 96% Graduate Placement Rate

Graduate Placement Exceeds 90% for 27 Consecutive Years

More than 90% of recent Valpo graduates have secured employment or enrolled in graduate school within nine months of graduation for the 27th straight year.

The overall placement rate for 2018–2019 alumni is 96.1%. For the past five years, the average placement rate of Valpo graduates is 95.8%.

“The success of our Valpo alumni, indicated by continually high placement rates, is a testament to Valpo’s intellectually rigorous and innovative education, as well as our gifted faculty and dedicated staff who share a total commitment to providing the resources and mentoring necessary for graduates to succeed in and beyond the classroom, and in life after graduation,” said President Mark A. Heckler, Ph.D. “Our alumni repeatedly demonstrate extraordinary integrity and character alongside their remarkable education in ways that positively impact the world around them. They fulfill their potential while achieving career and graduate school placement across the country and throughout the world.”

Each year, Valparaiso University’s Career Center sponsors nearly 100 career development opportunities including networking events, mock interviews, panel discussions and professional development workshops. In addition, the Career Center hosts six major career fairs, with more than 450 total employers in attendance.

2018–2019 alumni are employed across the country and world, with companies such as Toyota, State Farm, Caterpillar, Motorola, Sinclair Broadcast Group, Northrop Grumman, the Indiana Pacers, and Lurie Children’s Hospital.

Highlights of the 2018–2019 Graduate Report include:

  • Graduates are working or studying in 37 states, the District of Columbia and 14 countries outside the United States. More than 44% of the 2018–2019 alumni work or attend graduate school in Indiana.
  • Eleven respondents are involved in full-time service: three at Holden Village, two at City Year, one each in the Schuler Scholar Program, AmeriCorps VISTA, JVC Northwest, ELCA Young Adults in Global Mission and the Peace Corps.
  • Three respondents are in the Armed Forces: one each in the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps.
  • One graduate was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to teach in Germany.
