Valpo Business Fraternity Hosts Diversity Panel Discussion

Valparaiso University’s Kappa Phi chapter of Delta Sigma Pi will present a panel discussion, titled “Diversity in the Workplace,” on Thursday, Oct. 22, at 7 p.m. The discussion will be presented virtually on Zoom and is open to the public.

Michael Chikeleze, Ph.D., Richard C. and Francelia A. Gozon University Chair in Values-Based Leadership at Valparaiso University, and Eldridge Brown III, author of “Malcolm’s Stand,” will join the panel to prepare attendees for a diverse and inclusive workforce.

Five Valpo alumni and former Kappa Phi presidents will also discuss their experiences related to diversity and inclusion in the workplace in order to help mentor current students and other young professionals.

Delta Sigma Pi alumni panelists:

Jillian Holtzer ’17 received her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Valparaiso University and a master’s in nonprofit management from Ball State University. She was named the District Director of the Year for Delta Sigma Pi North Central Province this year for her service to the Alpha Psi chapter at the University of Chicago.

Nick Wottowa ’17 graduated from Valpo with a double major in international business and Chinese and Japanese Studies. He currently works with small-to-medium restaurants as an account manager for Uber Eats in Chicago.

Jacquelyn Delorto ’18 earned her bachelor’s in international business and Spanish at Valpo. She currently works at the International School of Indiana as their development coordinator, while working towards her MBA with an interest in nonprofit leadership.

Biyanka Shah ’17, ’19 M.S. received her bachelor’s in economics and master’s in international economics and finance at Valpo. She is the professional development chair for the Delta Sigma Pi North Central Province and also serves on the provincial award committee.

Braden Sim ’20 graduated with a bachelor’s in accounting and management. He was chosen as Delta Sigma Pi’s North Central Provincial Collegian of the Year, the first Valpo winner of this award. He has recently started volunteering as the district director of the Kappa Sigma chapter at IUPUI.

Joseph Trendowski, Ph.D., assistant professor of management and faculty advisor to Delta Sigma Pi, will moderate the discussion. He is the 2020 Delta Sigma Pi Advisor of the Year for the Great Lakes Region.

Delta Sigma Pi is one of the largest co-ed professional business fraternities in the United States. Valpo’s Kappa Phi chapter has benefited from strong, diverse leadership from its members for nearly 40 years.
