Brauer Museum of Art at Valpo Welcomes Spring Exhibitions

Valparaiso University’s Brauer Museum of Art will premiere its spring exhibitions with a special opening reception and award ceremony for student artwork on Wednesday, April 11, at 7 p.m. in the Center for the Arts on Valparaiso University’s campus. The exhibitions run through May 13. All Brauer Museum exhibitions and events are free and open to the public.

The annual student art exhibition in the museum’s Wehling and McGill Galleries will feature student pieces in a variety of traditional and digital media, selected by Valpo’s studio instructors during the course of the academic year. The exhibition offers the Brauer Museum the opportunity to display creative and thought-provoking works, while allowing Valpo art students the opportunity to showcase their talents and inspirations.

The West Gallery and Small Ferguson Gallery will house an exhibition of original artwork by Valparaiso University faculty members. A variety of media including painting, drawing, photography, sculpture and video will be represented, demonstrating the many approaches to art that faculty members consider in their studios and classrooms. The opening reception for this exhibition is Friday, April 20 at 7 p.m.

Additionally, a senior seminar exhibition will be on display in the Large Ferguson Gallery, and Gallery 1212 will feature paintings and drawings by retired faculty member Robert Sirko. Sirko will give a Gallery Talk in the Brauer Museum on Thursday, May 3, at 7 p.m.

The popular series Thursday Night Noir closes April 19 with a screening of the 1958 film “The Lineup.” The film/lecture series offers film screenings and discussions throughout the semester that explore the classic film genre. Four iconic movies have been featured by Indiana University Northwest Performing Arts faculty member and creator of the lecture series, Peter Aglinskas.

Throughout the season, the Brauer Museum hosts coffee hours and gallery talks with artists, curators and art collectors. Admission to the museum and its events is free, with donations welcome.
