The Valparaiso University Arts and Entertainment Administration Master’s Workshop 2011 takes place Aug. 5-12. The focus of the workshop will be Trends, Marketing and Promotion in Arts and Entertainment.
The course includes daily instruction by professionals, networking receptions with professionals in arts and entertainment, and visits to arts and entertainment facilities in Northwest Indiana and Chicago.
All teaching and networking professionals are local and national experts in the field of arts and entertainment management and administration. Instructors at the workshop will be Charlie Blum, president and CEO and talent buyer for Star Plaza in Merrillville, Ind.; T. Marshall Rousseau, former executive director of the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art at Florida State University; and Todd Wetzel, Convocation Director at Purdue University.
This two- to four-credit graduate course can be applied toward the Arts and Entertainment Administration master’s degree, or toward a certificate program.
“This workshop will provide an opportunity for professionals in arts and entertainment and students in our Arts and Entertainment Administration Graduate Program here at Valpo to be instructed by respected and seasoned leaders in the field who will expose them to the most significant trends and the most cutting-edge techniques in marketing and promotion in arts and entertainment,” said Kathleen Gibson, Assistant Dean of the Graduate School and Continuing Education.
The 36-credit program in Arts and Entertainment Administration prepares students for professional careers related to the administration of programs in arts and entertainment, including the performing arts, theatre, visual arts, museum studies, shows, and entertainment venues. The program draws upon the strong arts and museum programs at Valparaiso University as well as the rich artistic opportunities in Northwest Indiana and Chicago.
A wide range of professionals and entrants may find the program beneficial, including performing artists, teachers, business professionals, casino managers, showplace managers, managers of cultural organizations, and government and privately sponsored performance groups.
The summer workshop fits ideally in the hybrid delivery model of the program, which many students complete while holding full-time jobs in the arts and entertainment field.
