The Books and Coffee series will return for a 40th season on January 10. On the first eight Thursdays of the spring semester, University faculty from various departments will review books from the New York Times bestseller list. Valpo faculty, staff, students, and community members are encouraged to attend to hear stimulating reviews of important works of fiction and non-fiction and to meet an interesting group of people. All reviews run from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. and admission is free and open to the public.

  • “This is How You Lose Her,” by Junot Diaz, reviewed by Debra Ames – Jan. 17, Community Room
  • “The Yellow Birds,” by Kevin Powers, reviewed by Mike Owens – Jan. 24, Community Room
  • “The Ocean of Life: The Fate of Man and the Sea,” by Callum Roberts, reviewed by Jon Schoer – Jan. 31, Community Room
  • “The Round House,” by Louise Erdrich, reviewed by Debra Dew – Feb. 7, Community Room
  • “Elsewhere: A Memoir,” by Richard Russo, reviewed by Heath Carter – Feb. 14, Community Room
  • “The Cost of Hope: A Memoir,” by Amanda Bennett, reviewed by Julie Brandy – Feb. 21, Mueller Refectory
  • “Sweet Tooth: A Novel,” by Ian McEwan, reviewed by Julien Smith – Feb. 28, Community Room
