Chart-Topping Gym Class Heroes Coming to Valpo

The popular band Gym Class Heroes will be performing live at Valparaiso University on Friday, April 20 in the Harre Union Ballroom. Tickets are on sale now at union.universitytickets.com or at the Harre Union Welcome Desk. Tickets are $15 per person and doors open at 8 p.m.

The band was formed in 1997. Members Travie McCoy, Disashi Lumumba-Kasongo, Eric Roberts, and Matt McGinley met during their middle school gym class in Geneva, N.Y., and their music is inspired by rap, rock, R&B, and funk.

Gym Class Heroes are best known for their performance with Adam Levine in “Stereo Hearts” during the 2011 American Music Awards. The band’s latest album, “Papercut Chronicles II,” features Adam Levine from Maroon 5, Neon Hitch, and Bruno Mars. In the past decade they have been honored as MTV Video Music Awards Best New artist in 2007 and Hip Hop Nation Awards for Best Rap Song with Group for their “Cupid Chokehold” song.

Kevin Brown, senior public relations major from Racine, Wis., will be the opening act for the concert. With previous performances on campus, Brown has become well known for his rapping talents and enthusiasm to entertain.
