Valpo campus increases United Way contributions

Last October, Valparaiso University participated in the 2011 United Way Annual Campaign. Valpo has a 54-year history of supporting the local United Way, who looks to the University for support and leadership as the leading employer in Porter County.

After decreased giving for the past five years, the 2011 Campaign urged the Valpo community to help reverse the downward trend. These efforts paid off – total VU contribution for 2012 is $45,442.70. This is an increase of $12,534.70, which equals a 38 percent increase over last year’s total.

Thanks to the generous support of the Lilly Endowment and the Indiana Association of United Ways, new donors and loyal donors who increased their giving saw their new and increased donations matched 100 percent.

United Way does important work in the areas of education, health and financial stability. With the continuing challenges in the economy and cuts to funding to many non-profit organizations, support to the local community is more important than ever. Over 99% of contributions will stay in Porter County and will help to provide essential support to help better serve the community.
