Valparaiso University to offer courses in Portage

Valparaiso University’s Office of Continuing Education will offer college courses at the new Portage University Center beginning this fall.

Beginning Chinese (first semester) will be offered in fall 2012 and will be available to qualified junior and senior high school students as well as adults who wish to learn Mandarin Chinese. The course is offered for four university credits and prepares students for the second semester of Beginning Chinese, offered for four credits in spring 2013.

This course, taught by a Valparaiso University professor, will be offered on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday evenings from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The course may be used for dual credit (for high school and Valpo credit) with approval from Portage High School.

The course Entrepreneurship and Innovation will be offered as an undergraduate and graduate-level course, and is open to graduate and upper-level undergraduate students as a three-credit course. This course, offered Monday and Tuesday evenings from 7 to 9 p.m. at the center, may apply as elective credit toward undergraduate degrees and several graduate degrees at Valparaiso University.

The new $6.1 million, 32,000-square-foot Portage University Center is located at 6260 Central Ave. in Portage, and will be used in the future for unique course offerings sponsored by the Valparaiso University Graduate School and Office of Continuing Education and other regional colleges and universities.
