Judge Christopher A. Nuechterlein ’73, ’76 J.D. to Deliver Valparaiso University Commencement Address

Valparaiso University will celebrate Winter Commencement on Sunday, Dec. 11, at 2:30 p.m., conferring degrees upon 319 undergraduate, graduate and law students.

The keynote speaker is Judge Christopher A. Nuechterlein ’73, ’76 J.D., who was Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of California for more than 10 years, prior to being appointed United States Magistrate Judge for the Northern District of Indiana in 2000. During his time in California, Nuechterlein was the trial attorney for the United States Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., in the Criminal and Environment and Natural Resources Divisions.

Nuechterlein is currently a member of several professional organizations, including the Indiana State Bar Association, St. Joseph County Bar Association, Robert A. Grant Inn of Court and Federal Magistrate Judges Association. From 1987–1988, he served as the assistant director of the Attorney General’s Advocacy Institute and was in private practice in Goshen, Ind.

Nuechterlein received his undergraduate degree from Valparaiso University in 1973 with a B.A. in political science. In 1976, he completed his law degree from Valpo’s Law School.
