Getting Started in Your Online Program

Welcome to Valparaiso University!

Congratulations on your admission to Valparaiso University! We are delighted to have you join the Valparaiso University learning community and welcome you as a new online student. The steps below will help you get started as a new student in your online program.

Confirm your intent to enroll in you program by completing the Intent to Enroll form.

Financial Aid is available for students in online programs. Contact the Office of Financial Aid to find out about eligibility requirements and how to apply for aid.

Prior to registering, you must sign and submit the Education Benefit Payment Agreement. Download the form, sign it, and send a scan or a photo of the completed form to the Student Accounts Center at

If you have not already done so, reach out to your adviser, he or she will help you select and register for classes. Your adviser’s contact information is included in your acceptance letter.

Your registration, once processed, will initiate the creation of your Valpo email address, username, and password. Your new Valpo account information will be emailed to the address that we have on file for you. You will need your Valpo username and password to access Valpo websites such as DataVU and Blackboard.

Once you have your Valpo username and password, you can request a Valpo OneCard student ID. You do not need to have a Valpo OneCard to complete your online program, but we are happy to send you one if you would like one.

To request a OneCard go to the ID Photo Upload portal, log in using your Valpo username and password, and upload a photo of yourself. Your OneCard will be created and mailed to you – a signature will be required to receive the package.

If you live near Valparaiso University, you can get a OneCard and a campus parking pass at the OneCard Office, located in the Harre Union.

Once you are registered and have setup your username and password, you will be able to log in and access your courses through Blackboard. Here you will find your course information, syllabi, and assignments and much more for your courses.

DataVU is the student portal that will allow you to do many tasks including check your financial aid awards, access billing and tax information, search and register for courses, check your grades and degree progress, change your contact information, and many more tasks.

You can purchase course books and order supplies, apparel, and gifts through the Valpo Bookstore.
