Doug Tougaw (MBA ’05) joined the Valparaiso faculty in 1996 as an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and he served as the chair of that department from 2001 to 2010 and again from 2016 to 2020. His research interests include nanotechnology and engineering pedagogy. He has developed and taught courses in Fundamentals of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Engineering Ethics, Engineering Finance, Embedded Microcontrollers, Digital Communication, Electromagnetic Field Theory, Creativity and Innovation, and Entrepreneurship.Tougaw received the Valparaiso University Alumni Association Distinguished Teaching Award in 2006 and the Valparaiso University Excellence in Teaching Award in 2015. He has served as the Leitha and Willard Richardson Professor of Engineering since 2003, His professional affiliations include the American Society for Engineering Education, the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Tau Beta Pi, Order of the Engineer, and Eta Kappa Nu. He was responsible for bringing a link of Order of the Engineer and a chapter of Eta Kappa Nu to Valparaiso University.
