The residence halls close for Spring Break on Saturday, MARCH 2, 2019 at noon and will reopen after Spring Break on Sunday, MARCH 17, 2019 at noon.

BREAK HOUSING QUALIFICATIONS
Limited Break Housing is available in Alumni Hall or Uptown East Apartments Building 3 for the following reasons:

  • International Students
  • VU athletes in mid-season with practice and/or games over break
  • Students whose home is 500 or more miles from Valparaiso
  • Students participating in a credit-bearing activity such as student teaching, internship, or co-op
  • Students participating in a VU sponsored service trip

Students ARE NOT automatically eligible for break housing if they hold an on or off campus job that is not directly associated with a credit-bearing academic program.

If you do not meet any of the above criteria for Break Housing, you may submit a request based on an “Other” type of reason. PLEASE NOTE that if you are approved for Break Housing for non-University related reason(s), you will be charged a $25 per night fee for utilizing University Break Housing.

HOW TO APPLY FOR BREAK HOUSING
Break Housing applications are available on your Housing Self-Service. To access your Housing Self-Service page log onto DataVU then select “Housing Self-Service.” Once on your Housing Self-Service page, select the “Applications” tab and then select the “Spring Break Housing Application.”

DON’T LIVE IN ALUMNI OR UPTOWN BUILDING 3?
If you are not a current resident of Alumni or Uptown East Apartments Building 3 you are required to obtain permission from a resident of Alumni or Uptown East Apartments Building 3 to occupy their room during the vacation period. YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO USE THEIR KEY. You will not be given a key to their room by Residential Life.

Residential Life has limited spaces available to host students who do not reside in break buildings or cannot find a host. Students applying for break housing after 5pm on Monday, February 18 will not be guaranteed housing in a space provided by Residential Life.

BREAK HOUSING APPLICATION DEADLINE
The Office of Residential Life must receive applications for Spring Break housing by 5:00p.m. on MONDAY, FEBRUARY 18. Additionally, students who do not properly sign up for break housing by the posted deadlines and need accommodations may also have to pay a late application fee ($50) to receive permission to reside on campus during the break period.

BREAK HOUSING NOTIFICATION
You will be notified via your Valpo email on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 of the status of your break housing request.
