Students Going Abroad or Interning for the Fall Semester

Students who will be off campus on a University recognized program for the Fall semester must cancel their housing with the University via Housing Self-Service by the designated day. If students intend to return to campus housing for the Spring semester they should indicate on the cancellation form that they wish to have their housing deposit (if applicable) transferred to the upcoming Spring semester.

Housing Cancellation Process for Fall

Students living on campus who plan to go abroad will need to complete a “Housing Cancellation Form (Fall 20XX)” for the upcoming fall term.To complete an application, you will log into your DataVU and click on “Housing Self-Service” under the “Housing & Meal Plan Section.” After you confirm that you wish to log into Housing Self-Service, your Housing Self-Service portal will open.

Students participating in an internship or co-op must also provide The Office of Residential Life verification of their off-campus program. Housing information for the upcoming Spring semester will be emailed in October to all students in international study programs, co-op, and other University off-campus study programs.

To complete an application, you will log into your DataVU and click on “Housing Self-Service” under the “Housing & Meal Plan Section.” After you confirm that you wish to log into Housing Self-Service, your Housing Self-Service portal will open.

The application will still be available after that date, but any applications received after the deadline above will not receive a priority room selection time and will be placed on the end of the room selection appointments.

On the Tuesday following Thanksgiving break, you will receive an appointment time to select a room based on your completed credit hours. Appointment times will be visible on your Housing Self-Service. Room selection will occur later that week and you will then select a space for the upcoming Spring from available spaces.

Requesting a Roommate
If you have a roommate request, you must select a roommate prior to selecting a room. There are several ways to request a roommate.

If your roommate is also abroad or participating in an internship, you may select them as a roommate only after BOTH of you complete the On-Campus Housing Application.

If your desired roommate is currently on-campus and has an open space in their room BOTH of you will need to email ResLife@valpo.edu to request each other. Our office will then manually match you together.

If you do not have a roommate request, you can select any open space in the room selection phase.

To select a roommate, you will log into your Housing Self-Service portal through DataVU and click on “Roommate/Suitemates” under the “Room Selection” menu.

Selecting a Room
Starting at your designated room selection appointment time, you may log onto your Housing Self-Service portal and select an available space by choosing “Select a Room or Suite” under the “Room Selection” menu.

In the event that you have limited access to select a room during your designated time, please email our office at ResLife@valpo.edu and our office will select a space for you.

Additionally, if you are part of a special housing group, such as a sorority or fraternity, and you would like to live with that group, please email our office at ResLife@valpo.edu.
