The OSSR supports sponsored and student research as well as seeking external funding for a range of institutional projects and initiatives.  Part of the Office of the Provost, OSSR is the central point of coordination for sponsored projects and research as well as research-related functions such as the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) which assure the ethical treatment of research subjects.

The OSSR assists the campus community in obtaining external funding for research, instructional, and public service programs. While research has long been an important part of the graduate student experience, it is becoming an increasingly important part of the undergraduate experience.  Valpo is pleased to offer a range of research opportunities both during the academic year and the summer.  Often funded by grants, many of these opportunities compensate students for their work.  Internal grants provide additional support that enables students to benefit from a robust research experience.

Valparaiso University hosts a variety of student research and creative works opportunities across campus. Some of these opportunities involve active participation in research and creative works while other opportunities are presentations and celebrations of that work. Valpo’s Creative Works and  Research Committee awards internal grants to faculty and staff to support their efforts.  More information about internal grants for faculty and students can be found here.
