Valparaiso University Welcomes the Public to Spring Semester Performances

Students and faculty at Valparaiso University welcome members of the public to an exciting semester of performances, shows and concerts this spring. With a variety of events including jazz, Gospel, dance performances, music from blockbuster films, a baroque masterwork, and a musical theatre performance, there’s something for everyone at Valparaiso University. Performances are free unless otherwise noted.
Dance Ensemble, Friday, Jan. 31 at 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 1 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m., Valparaiso University Center for the Arts (VUCA).
The Valparaiso University Dance Ensemble takes the stage to perform choreography by students and faculty at the University Theatre. Tickets are available here or in-person at the VUCA.
Gospel Fest, Saturday, Feb. 1 at 7 p.m., Chapel of the Resurrection.
The Valparaiso University Gospel Choir will be in concert at the Chapel of the Resurrection with featured artists Dave Martin & Glory Song Ministries. All are welcomed to this free event.
Epic Film Music Concert, Saturday, Feb. 8 at 7 p.m., Chapel of the Resurrection.
Enjoy music from the big screen as the Valparaiso University Chamber Concert Band and the Valparaiso High School Bands perform this year’s Epic Film Music Concert: “Music of Asia.”
Band Festival Concerts, Saturday, Feb. 15, at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., Chapel of the Resurrection
Valparaiso University musicians join others from around the community starting with the Small High School Band Festival, followed by the annual Community Band Festival.
At 3 p.m., the Valparaiso University Luce Concert Band will combine with guest high school students for the Valparaiso University Small High School Band Festival. The performance will be a sensory-friendly and welcoming concert. Valparaiso University music therapy students will lead activities with members of the neurodivergent, autistic, and disabled communities in Northwest Indiana.
At 5 p.m., the Valparaiso Community/University Concert Band, Valparaiso University Luce Concert Band, and guest musicians from local community bands will present the annual community band festival.

Symphony Orchestra Concert, Saturday, Feb. 22 at 5 p.m., Chapel of the Resurrection
Celebrate student music talent! This performance by the Valparaiso University Symphony Orchestra will feature the winners of the University’s student concerto competition in solo works.
Bach Outreach Tour Kickoff Concert, Friday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m., Chapel of the Resurrection.
Help send off the Valparaiso University Chorale, chamber orchestra and brass as they start their journey to bring anthems, hymns, chamber music, and excerpts from J.S. Bach’s St. John Passion to Lutheran churches and schools in Frankenmuth, Detroit, Saginaw, and Lansing, Michigan.
Anastasia, The Musical, Thursday and Friday, April 3 and 4 at 8 p.m., and Saturday, April 5 at 2 p.m., University Theatre, VUCA.
Join the Valparaiso University Theatre department as they bring Terrence McNally’s book to life, with music and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. Ticket information and purchasing will be available here, or in-person at the VUCA.
Bach Institute presents: J.S. Bach’s St. John Passion, Saturday, April 12 at 5 p.m., Chapel of the Resurrection.
The Valparaiso University Chorale and the Bach Choir will be joined by the Leipzig Baroque Orchestra in this celebration of the work of Johann Sebastian Bach. Tickets are $25 for general admission, $40 for preferred. Free to Valparaiso University faculty, staff and students.
Jazz Festival, April 23-26, with performances at 7:30 p.m. each day, VUCA.
High school jazz bands from across the region will join Valparaiso University for three days of performances and workshops, with the feature performances taking place at 7:30 p.m. each day. Tickets will be required for the feature performance, and can be found here.
Sousa Tribute Concert, Sunday, April 26 at 4 p.m., Chapel of the Resurrection.
Over 110 years after John Philip Sousa’s final performance in Valparaiso, the annual Sousa Tribute Concert lives on. Join musicians from across Valpo’s ensembles as we celebrate the legacy of the legendary composer.

Valparaiso University New Music Ensemble, Wednesday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m., Duesenberg Recital Hall.
The New Music Ensemble explores 20th and 21st century compositions, as well as some brand-new pieces by Valpo students and alumni.
