Sorority Life

Panhellenic Council

The Valparaiso University Panhellenic Council hosts a bimonthly meeting of the chapter Panhellenic Delegates on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month in the Christopher Center, Board of Directors Room. Each member sorority sends two delegates to the meetings, and these women serve as the representative voice of their chapters on all action items.

The Valparaiso University Inter-Sorority Council was originally established in the Fall of 1920 and has been operating as the governing body for the sorority community since that time. When the sororities transitioned from local sororities to inter/national sororities in 1998, the Inter-Sorority Council transitioned to a Panhellenic Council affiliated with the National Panhellenic Conference.

The Panhellenic Council at Valparaiso University is the governing body for the seven member sororities at the University. The Panhellenic Council at Valparaiso University develops and maintains fraternity/sorority life and inter-sorority relations at a high level of accomplishment, and in doing so:

  • Considers the goals and ideals of member groups as continually applicable to campus and personal life;
  • Promotes superior scholarship as basic to intellectual achievement;
  • Cooperates with member sororities and the university administration in concern for and maintenance of high social and moral standards;
  • Contributes to the excellence of the University and the outside community through service and academic achievement; and
  • Enhances and maintain standards of individual members of this Panhellenic Council through inter-sorority and inter-community relations and high emphasis on academic achievement, all in cooperation with University administration and faculty.
