A Perfect Season

Valpo’s women’s soccer teamValpo’s women’s soccer team took campus by storm last fall, rattling off a perfect 8-0-0 mark during Horizon League play as part of a program-record 12-match winning streak and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Rita Craven ’16 was named Horizon League Player of the Year in addition to a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Third Team All-American nod, while John Marovich was crowned Coach of the Year. Rita also achieved NSCAA First Team Scholar All-American status — one of just 12 athletes in the country to earn the distinction and the first in Valpo program history.

Valpo’s best season in program history (14-2-4) came to a close in South Bend after the 12th-ranked Fighting Irish found the back of the net with 50 seconds to play in their 1-0 win over the Brown and Gold.
