Valpo qui s’éloigne

French major Annika Brown ’20 was a student in Professor Tomasik’s FREN 290 (a course on Classic French Cinema) and produced a short film for her final project. This film is based on the style of filmmaker René Clair in his 1924 silent film, Paris qui dort. Clair’s film tells the tale of a watchman at the top of the Eiffel Tower who wakes up to find the entire city “asleep,” or at least frozen in time. Annika adapted Clair’s story and style to her film Valpo qui s’éloigne by treating our experience with the COVID pandemic in Spring 2020.
