French Honors 2020

Every spring, during the last week of class, the Department of World Languages and Cultures honors its graduating French seniors at our awards ceremony.  This spring, we are sadly unable to gather in person, but we still wish to recognize our seniors and all of their accomplishments of these past four years. Congratulations to our graduating seniors!

Ellie Benz, French and Psychology
Ellie studied in Nantes in spring 2019. Along with Anna Corner, she will present at the 2020 SOURCE on a project related to her French senior seminar. After graduation, Ellie plans to attend graduate school seeking a degree in Clinical Psychology.
Maddie Bohlin, French and IECA
Maddie received a French prix d’excellence award in her sophomore year and was awarded the Patterson MacLean Friedrich Scholarship in French in her junior year at Valpo. She was inducted into Pi Delta Phi, the Valpo chapter of the French national honor society, in 2018, and has been active in the Cercle français. Maddie lived in the French House and studied in Nantes in spring 2019. Along with Annika Brown, she will present at the 2020 SOURCE on a project related to her French senior seminar. Maddie’s goal after graduation is to eventually pursue non-profit work in Chicago.

After graduation, Aly plans on conducting environmental economics research through Valparaiso University during the summer then start working as an Environmental Change Agent in Senegal for the Peace Corps. Anna Corner, French and IECA
Anna was awarded a French prix d’excellence in her sophomore year. She was inducted into Pi Delta Phi in 2018 and has been a very active member in the Cercle français. For her post-grad plans, Anna will be interning this summer a Ingenuity- a Chicago nonprofit that advocate for fine arts programs in Chicago Public Schools. After that, she will hopefully work as a teaching assistant in France through the Fulbright or
TAPIF program. She is currently listed as an Alternate for the Fulbright. If all els fails, she plans to stay in the Chicago or Indianapolis area, doing nonprofit work.
Kylie Sterling, French and English/Creative Writing
As a freshman, Kylie was awarded a French prix d’excellence. She was inducted into Pi Delta Phi in 2018 and studied abroad in Nantes in spring 2019. Her future plans right now are pretty vague (her words, not mine). She plans to start looking for a job after she graduates, something hopefully involving writing and/or editing, and if not that, then art/design; eventually she aims to publish her own work.
