Scholarships for First-Year Students

$1,000 Scholarship for Incoming First-Year Students Who Will Major in French, German, Greek and Roman Studies, or Spanish

$1,000 scholarships are available for incoming first-year students who declare a major in French, German, Greek and Roman Studies, or Spanish. (Students may have two academic majors.) These merit awards are renewable annually for a total of $4,000 if the student remains a world language major and makes satisfactory academic progress.

Scholarship winners are selected on the basis of an application made available through the admissions application process. Once students have been admitted to the university, eligible candidates will be invited by email to apply for the scholarship. The short and simple online application asks for a brief essay (200 words) about interest in the language and future plans, as well as short descriptions of any study abroad experiences and academic awards. To be considered for the scholarship, students must also take a language placement exam.

Students interested in these scholarships are strongly encouraged to apply before December 1 for admission to the university.
