Why Biology at Valpo?
Valpo’s biology students go on to excel in careers from genetic research to natural resource management to high school teaching. Graduates of Valpo’s biology program go on to successful careers because they get so much hands-on experience before graduation. Lab classes, internships, research opportunities, and service work all provide students a chance to apply their knowledge to real-world situations.
To acknowledge these diverse interests, the department offers five degree programs, each one leading to a specialized biology major, as well as minors in human biology and general biology. The biology department also collaborates with other science faculty to offer a pre-medical arts program and an environmental science major.
Rich in Regional Resources
With its proximity to both the urban resources of Chicago and the rich ecology of the Indiana Dunes, Valpo’s biology department can tap into exceptional resources for biological study.
The career opportunities for biology majors are as diverse as the biological world itself. Many biology majors pursue advanced training in graduate or professional schools, while others go directly into careers.
Experts and Mentors
Professors at Valpo help students develop their knowledge, their career plans, and their curiosity.
