Valparaiso University Achieves Record-Breaking Donor Turnout

Jose Valpo Day

On Tuesday, April 9, Valparaiso University hosted its largest fundraising and community event of the year, Valpo Day. This year’s event featured an expansive luminary field display on the campus’s West Lawn, a day-long celebration of all things Valpo, and a record-breaking achievement of donor and community participation that spanned well across the country. Not only did the University far exceed its donor goal for the day, it also brought in a record number of funds totaling $1,180,365.

“The impact of this year’s Valpo Day has not just brought together our campus community but also throughout the communities across the globe.” President José Padilla said, “Valpo students come from all over the world to be a part of this fine institution. On days like Valpo Day, we get to see these torchbearers come together and support each other on campus and beyond. They give back to their communities and their alma mater and make us proud every day.”

The enthusiasm and excitement of the day were palpable on Valpo’s campus. Students, faculty, and staff could be seen  lending a hand to put together the luminary field, stopping for photo opportunities at campus landmarks, and attempting to obtain a coveted selfie with President Padilla.

“We are so thrilled with the outcome of Valpo Day 2024. Our team worked tirelessly to bring together an exciting day full of fun and Valpo pride, celebrating the torchbearers within our community,” said Marie Foster-Bruns, vice president for advancement. “We are grateful for the 2,587 individuals who took the time to give for Valpo Day and are blown away by the results. The support of our alumni and friends means the world to us.”

For Valpo supporters who couldn’t make it to campus on April 9, the University provided several modes of interaction virtually via social media participation challenges and an all-day live stream of the luminary field on the University website. Valpo alumni social media accounts saw an increase in content interaction of more than 370% on Facebook and more than 1,200% on Instagram on Valpo Day alone.

Valparaiso University plans to make Valpo Day an annual event and looks forward to connecting with the community again on April 9, 2025. For a recap of the 2024 highlights, please visit alumni.valpo.edu/valpoday.
